I'm As Depressed As a Fish About to be Barbecued

I'm going on a short hiatus.
My laptop wouldn't start. All my pictures and videos are in there.
I don't know what's gonna happen to it just yet.
If I can't recover the files, I'll have to do all the makeup, take all the pictures, record all the videos, all over again. Not to mention edit, compile and watermark. It's dreadfully troublesome and time-consuming. What more, I can't get back event pictures that I've yet to post up *SIGHS!!!*

Just not in the mood to blog right now until I get everything sorted out. Bad enough that I have assignments to complete and here I am, handicapped. The netbook's not very user-friendly for long hours (because it's sloooowwww.....)

I've been meaning to get a new computer. A desktop this time. I'm done with laptops! But I need my files :(

Anyway, I'll probably still blog bits and pieces because I do have interesting things coming up that I've been waiting to share with all of you. Ah, horrible timing to have this breakdown AND a meltdown!

Please excuse my negativity. I'm just horribly pessimistic right now because I utterly HATE when things go wrong and I can't or couldn't have done anything to prevent it from happening.

You all enjoy the rest of the weekend. I need to go smash a few plates to release tension.

Hello Connie,
I've been a reader of your blog for a long time. It is sad to hear that your laptop crashed. Now, I have to wait for a while until I get my dose of makeup reviews, esp from your blog :)

I have a suggestion.

You can ask the comp. technician(anyone you have known and trusted) to copy all the files from your hard disk into another external hard disk. This might take some time because it depended on the size of your hard disk. I had the same problem and it was because my laptop couldn't stand the heat. (staying online non-stop! )

What will the technician do? Take out your hard disk, turned it into an external HDD, use another computer to copy the files from your HDD to another external HDD.

This might sound complicated to you but it will not hurt to ask first. :)

Good luck :D

Sorry to hear that. It's always distressing to potentially lose all that data from over the years.

Ned has some great tips and I second the external hard drive for regular backups in the future. They are quite cheap now less than RM200 for 500GB and portable.

Good luck. Fingers crossed that the tech people can recover your data.

*hugs* Have someone fix it so that your files will be saved! Goodluck! *hugs*

oh dear! send it to the technician? is it still under warranty? try asking perhaps?

Find a computery person and ask them to pop your harddrive out. I understand that as far as computer things go, this isn't that hard.
Good luck with everything, I'm sure it will work out :D

:( sorry to hear this. like a few of the commenters have suggested, in future you might want to get a portable hard disk and save everything there as backups. and like ned said, i think it's possible to still save your files since you said your power light is still blinking. good luck!

Kelly: Thank you :)

Ned: Thanks so much. That's really great advice and I'm definitely panicking less now. Tomorrow I'm gonna call HP support and see what they have to say and if there's nothing they can do on their side without costing a lot, I'll have it sent to a technician. A friend was sweet enough to give me the same advice and recommended a reliable technician.

ShuAddict: Thanks! Yup, I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now. Haha. I actually have a 1TB ext hard drive. My bad for not backing up my pictures since I've formatted my laptop in July :x

Nikki: Thanks sweetie *hugs back*

Plue: Yup, first I'm gonna call HP and let them know of this problem (apparently it's not uncommon with Compaq laptops!)then I'm gonna send it to a technician. Bleerrrggghhhh....

Sabra: Thanks!

Tine: Thank you. Haha, I don't get to play free paintball now and I don't think the neighbours would be appreciative of the loud noises but yeah, that would've been great for stress relief. I went for flying fox and saw a lot of ducks over the weekend so I guess that cheered me up a little. *hugs back*

Gio: Thanks for the support :)

Ee Von: Thanks, babe. Haha, ext hard disk I have but I haven't been backing up my pictures since July. been meaning to but believe it or not, some of my recently posted pictures were from July :x yes, that's how backlogged I am!

Yup - an ext hard-disk is a lifesaver IF you religiously back up there.

My lappie's hard-disk died 2 months back, but the technicians miraculously managed to recover most of the stuffies...

*fingers, toes & eyes crossed it's the same with yours - good luck*

Ouch; losing data is never any fun... however, if it is the motherboard itself (and not your hard drive)you're probably going to be able to get your data back. And, if you do, I trust that you will always back up your stuff from now on... I learned the hard way too; now I back up my whole system at the start of each month.
Good luck! Hope to see you back soon.
