Review + Giveaway: L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid

The new and improved formula of the coveted L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation now contains Hyaluronic Acid. Seems like these days Hyaluronic Acid is becoming quite the popular ingredient in both skin care and makeup. Well, it's a terrific hydrating ingredient so I'm not complaining.

Taking over the place of a personally well-liked foundation, how does this new formula compare?
Read on...

Compared to the original L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation, this new one:
  • Feels hydrating
  • Has a lighter and runnier texture
  • Is easier to blend
  • Feels more comfortable
  • Gives a sheer to medium coverage
  • Didn't oxidize as much but a base will still be required
All the above-mentioned improvements are generally appealing to the masses though I personally prefer foundations with a little bit more coverage, which the old one did give me. Other than that, this formula is a well-rounded upgrade.

I was given shade G1 Vanilla Ivory to test which was very light for my skin. I should be more of a G2 or G3. L'Oreal has shade-matching system for various skin tones where G (Gold) is for warm, R (Rose) is for cool, and N (Neutral) is for neither warm or cool. If you wanna learn more about undertones, do check out PB's post on it.

From my point of view, most Asians will be either Warm or Neutral and you should get your foundation to match you neck or chest rather than your face. Some people may have a very pink face and think that they are cool-toned and get a pink-toned foundation to "match". What they don't realize is that their chest is beige so they end up looking odd... You'll probably get a better foundation match testing it on your chest rather than your jawline.

Anyway, since the coverage was sheer, I managed to make the shade work for me with a darker powder. Despite how the picture on the left looks, I did find that layering powder over the foundation accentuated some fine lines so I skipped the powder and got a better result. Even without powder, the foundation stayed on pretty well.

Left: G1 with a darker powder (MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus). My skin looks a tad oily but that's due to greasy L'Oreal UV Perfect as base
Right: G1 mixed with a darker foundation (Youngblood Liquid Mineral Foundation in Tahitian Sun). No powder was used

What really stood out for me about this foundation is how impeccably easy it is to blend it. I can simply slap this foundation on with a foundation brush or fingers and there will be no streaks. The foundation looks natural and not at all mask-like.

If you're wondering why there isn't my usual "Before and After" shots, it's because I knocked my foundation off the table and shattered it before I could get the pictures. I would've tried to salvage what was left in the bottle if it wasn't for the fragments of glass in it *sighs*

All in all, good drugstore foundation for non-extreme skin types if you like a sheer and natural coverage.

Retails for RM52.90 at major healthcare stores and L'Oreal counters. Contains SPF17 PA++

Connie, I actually tried this in Watson drugstore and because it was a lil bit pricey so I didn't buy it. I agree with what u say, it blends in really well. I love this <3

Oh my, it sure sucks to break a brand new bottle of foundation. I've seen a couple of reviews on this and most of them are good ones. I would really like to try it out =) Thanks for the review!

looks like a light foundation for those who live in the warm places. i will look into this. i find most drugstore foundations don't offer enough shades in general.

good luck to those who enter the contest.

ps: that pink on your lips is delicious!

I'm so glad you reviewed this! I haven't tried any of L'oreal foundations but I'm so tempted now! I miss wearing liquid foundation :D

Pink Cotton said... must be nice to see a liquid foundation paired up with a hydrating agent like hyaluronic acid. i m a sucker for any skincare that "hydrates"! xD

Ooh, timely post! I'm on the lookout for a new foundation and have heard great things about the previous True Match from my friends :) Would love to try this :)

I read Paris B's post about undertones and until today I'm still not sure what undertone I am. When I was in the UK, all of the sales assistants would say that I am fairly yellow toned. But when I am back here in Malaysia, all of the sales assistants insist that I am pink undertoned. For an asian, I am fairly pink but i think this is all fairly relative don't you think so? =)

Thanks for the review. It sounds like a good drugstore foundation but L'oreal shades are usually all too dark for me :( I'm sorry your bottle broke, that sucks!

The foundation looks good in the pics. Don't mind giving this a go.

match the chest? that's the first time i hear this. what about if those who always wears t-shirts and blouse that shows only the neck upwards? i guess matching the chest is for people who loves tank tops and sleeveless.

Have tried the previous version of True Match but it broke me out and kinda hard to blend..

I'd love to try this new version since it's runnier and more sheer.. :)

How is L'oreal compared with Revlon Colorstay?
The Taiwan Queen TV Show have been showing that most makeup products contained hyaluronic acids for hydrating purposed. Something which I'm looking for~~

Ahhh...The usual question from a nude lip junkie ^_^ :

What do you have on your lips in the 2nd pic where you mixed L'oreal and YoungBlood?

Michelle said...

Oooh..I hope it works better than my current liquid foundation! My current one tends to slide off even after using powder. >.<

Ah.. I'm just like kay kamal. Started off my make up collection with bb creams and they all turned out to be too fair and pinkish on me. urgh.. Im so tired of foundations that oxidise fast and only look good for a short while. It looks great in the morning but after 3 hours or so, it begins to turn way darker than your skin tone.

But I agree with you, matching the foundation on your neck/chest. My face is not the same shade as my neck. It's more reddish and dark. So I have to apply the foundation on my neck as well

Hmm.. I'm not sure of my undertone, I guess that is why the foundations that I bought always made me looked too fair. Will definitely try out the tip about matching the shade with the neck/chest... but my neck gets hidden from sunlight a lot more than my face. >_<

I don't have a proper foundation so this is good. I don't know my shade though. I need something that is hydrating too. I have those bad dry cheeks!

I guess the bad side of this one is the glass bottle.

Selene said...

I am a subscriber.

I need some foundation that won't dry out my skin and cover zits. I, like quite a lot of people don't know my shade. have not tried this product in store yet. I think we need a good base before playing up other features so finding a good foundation is crucial.

Thanks for this giveaway.
